Patch Backing
Ways you can attach your custom patch
How a custom embroidered, woven, or PVC patch is affixed to apparel or gear is equally as important as the patch design itself. At Patch Depot, we give you options! We offer a wide variety of backing styles for you to choose from, so that your order of patches are easy-to-wear and enjoy.
No Backing
FREE
This option is ideal for patches that are temporarily being worn on a garment. They can be secured with tuxedo clips or safety pins.
PVC Backing
FREE
This option requires that the patch be sewn-on. The reason for this backing is that the PVC serves as a protective coating that supports the patch. It does not have iron-on capabilities.
Iron On Backing
ADD $0.10 PER UNIT, UP TO 5.5" SIZE
This paid option is ideal if you do not anticipate moving the patch around from one garment to another.
Peel and Stick
ADD 20% PER UNIT
This paid option exists to eliminate the need to sew-on or iron-on patches to apparel, hats, and bags. Simply remove the backing from the patch, position it wherever you’d like it to be seen, and press down firmly. The sticky material on the back of the patch keeps it in place.
Hook and Loop
ADD $0.45 FOR SIZES UP TO 3.0" OR $0.55 FOR SIZES 3.5"-4.5"
This paid option is ideal for customers who want to wear the same patch on multiple garments or different patches on the same garment. By simply peeling the patch off the Velcro, you can affix it to as many shirts, vests, and jackets as you want. This style of backing is very durable and can be used over and over again without damaging the custom embroidered patch or woven patch.
8mm Post with Butterfly Clutch
FREE
Butterfly clutches are ideal for temporary placement such as employee needing to transfer from one uniform to another, or to place over an existing graphic or patch. This style of attachment allows the patch to be used over and over again in various articles of clothing, no sewing necessary.

Here are just a few of our satisfied clients and customers
Do you have a minimum quantity of patches that has to be ordered?
Yes, there is a minimum quantity of 100 patches per design. We can create a smaller batch of patches but there is a $55.00 under-minimum fee as well as an increase in the patch unit cost. We can offer as few as 50 patches per design, if you are willing to pay the additional costs.
Does iron on backing help patches stay in place?
Iron On backing is durable. It’s meant to last. It adheres to most fabrics and can handle most washing machines and dryers (50-70 wash and dry). We can send you more specific Iron On instructions per your request.
How many colors can my patch have?
We offer up to 7 thread colors for FREE with every patch order. Additional colors are only 10 cents extra per color. This allows you to have the exact patch you want! We don’t place a restriction on the total number of colors featured on your patch.
How do I measure my patch design so I can calculate the size and cost of my patch?
To get the size of your patch, you need to follow a simple calculation of (Height + Width) / 2. Add together the largest height and the largest width of your patch and divide that number by two. Simple as that!
